Our story
It started with Mum's hands. It ended up being everyone's shoulders.
Mum has knitted every winter of my life. Two years ago I watched her put it down for the third time in a morning — cold hands, stiff fingers — and shrug it off as her age. I didn't buy it. So we made the bamboo gloves, and by July she was finishing a row without stopping.
Then the emails started. Same people, same sentence: my hands are better, but it's my neck and shoulders now. A bloke in Bendigo who couldn't turn his head to reverse the boat trailer. A woman in Toowoomba who'd stopped weeding the back bed because she paid for it the next day. My old man, who spent thirty years on the tools and calls a seized shoulder just wear and tear.
None of them wanted a clinic. They wanted to finish the garden, get the caravan hitched, sit through a Test match without shifting in the chair. So we spent a year on the DeepKnead: deep enough to reach a real knot, gentle enough to use the first night, and worn rather than held — because nobody should need a spare hand to feel better.
Getting older should never mean giving up what you love. We still don't buy it.
Ten minutes a day. That's the whole ask.
Put it on after dinner and let it work while the news is on. Most people feel something the first night — the change worth having comes from doing it again tomorrow.
How it works
Why a thumb can't do this.
Your own hand can find the knot. Ask anyone who's tried — you press it, it hurts in that good way, and then your thumb gives out.
That's the whole problem. A thumb tires in about forty seconds, and the moment the pressure comes off the muscle closes back over the same spot. You've irritated it, not released it. It's why a two-minute rub from your partner feels lovely and changes nothing by morning.
The DeepKnead's nodes rotate against the same point continuously — at a depth you set with the straps — for as long as you leave it there. That's the difference between rubbing a knot and actually releasing one, and it's why ten quiet minutes does more than ten minutes of effort.
We built the one we couldn't buy.
A remedial massage works. That was never in question. The trouble is eighty-five dollars an hour, the drive, and the fortnight's wait — so you go once a year and call it a treat.
The units on the shelf are the other extreme. Corded, so they live wherever the plug is, and light enough that most people say they can barely feel them. They don't disappoint because they're cheap. They disappoint because they never reach the knot.
So we spent a year building the one that didn't exist. Deep enough that you feel it working on the first night. Cordless, so it lives on the arm of the couch instead of in a cupboard.

What people write to us
“I was worried I'd overdo it on the first night. It turns itself off at fifteen minutes, so that decision is made for you. I've used it every evening since.”
“I've been caught before buying things online, so the sixty nights is what got me over the line. Never needed it. Three weeks in and I can reverse the car without turning my whole body.”
“Emailed on a Tuesday about the strap and had a proper answer from a real person the next morning. An Australian company that actually replies — rarer than it should be.”
Sixty nights to decide
Use it every evening for two months. If nothing's changed, send it back and we'll refund you. No forms, no argument.
It stops itself at fifteen minutes
Two techniques, three intensities and heat you can switch on or off. It shuts down on its own after fifteen minutes, so there's no way to overdo it.
Australian-owned, and we answer
Email us and a real person replies inside one business day. Not a bot, not a template, not three weeks later.
Questions we get asked
Will it be strong enough for my knots?
It's the most common thing we're asked. There are three intensity levels and two kneading techniques, and pulling the straps down presses the nodes deeper into the muscle — so how deep it goes is up to you, second by second.
Will it hurt?
Not unless you want it to. Start on the lowest setting, let the straps go and it eases right off. It also switches itself off after fifteen minutes, so you can't accidentally overdo it on the first night.
Can I use it on my own?
Yes. It drapes over your shoulders and stays there. No help needed, no floor, no awkward reaching behind you.
Does it need to be plugged in?
No. It charges by USB-C and runs for one to two hours — around eight sessions between charges. Use it on the couch, in the car, wherever you actually are.
Can it be cleaned?
The cover detaches and washes. The body is faux leather and wipes down.
How long until I feel a difference?
Most people feel something the first evening. The change worth having comes from ten minutes a day over a couple of weeks — which is exactly why we give you sixty nights to decide.
